It's a high price we pay for collective deception, but of course it's SB that will have to pay the ultimate price.

Right now, I'm thinking a naked visit to a 24 hour servo would probably satisfy your very generous offer Seb.

I used to own a 24 hr servo in the student area of Dunedin, it was a reasonably regular occurrence for the night shift guy to get a naked student turn up to buy a Moro bar. In fact, if you time it right Seb, you may just have to get in the queue with all the other naked people.

All other suggestions will be gratefully received and considered.

seems the rotm isn't even a contest, it's pretty much just a poll to verify how many members own the same kind of ride. frankly i find it boring to watch the same thing happen over and over every month.
of course i understand the fun of the challenge of maintaining top-dog status, i guess i just don't appreciate it and would like some variety once in a while. i wouldn't even mind just having a rotating feature spot to highlight some member's bike periodically.

i see your point regener8ed, but it was a great honor to be nominated, and i didnt ask for it, but i must say i was VERY honored, and the support ive been shown is astounding..

i think it would be fair to say that if the other bike types were as enthusiastic about voting as the 1000 boys are, they could have won, quite easily, and there were definately some BEAUTIFUL bikes put forward.. (again thanks for all who voted..)

just so you know that im not just a guy with a ride, or that its about being thought the top for me, (cos it realllllllllly isnt.. im humbled by the skill and experience on this forum..) i am very passionate about my bikes, i have dedicated myself to them for over 10 years, and love all of them dearly.. they have all had names, and been my friends, to the point where i havent ever held a car licence, because riding makes me happy, makes me alive, and gives me purpose and joy...

i have to say, thankyou , again..

 

probably very true; this forum has (and always has had) a strong and active 1000f membership. i have to say you guys are also more personal than most of the other groups i can think of -- the bikes may have brought us all together, but it seems like the 'old codgers' use the forum to develop a more robust social association that goes deeper than just the machines.

 

You got that right!, we are the last of the Huricane riders, so we have to stick together...

I think the difference between the Hurricane people and the modern people is this.

We, the Hurricane people have to put a lot more work into our bikes to make them ROTM material. You notice the lack of that long list of aftermarket add-ons associated with the 1kf's. There's more to it, I think, than hanging a lot of bling on our bikes. Well, basically there's not much bling out there to be had for our bikes. Which, in my mind, adds the aspect of purity associated to the 1kf's entered in the contest. We have to work harder to bring the old gal's back to their original luster and beyond. That's why we applaud and support the Hurricane entry every time.

Also, I think the modern guys might all be of the opinion that their individual bike is the best out there, while the Hurricane members may possess a collective mindset that all Hurricanes are the best. Some better than others, you only have to look at my bike to see that, but even my old road dog gets its proper respect in our chapter of the forum

Being a Hurricane owner I will always support and applaud the guy who has to repair and patch cracks in irreplaceable ABS fairings, than the guy who opened his wallet for all of that bolt on, go-fast bling. Give me a new bike and and enough disposable income and I can build me any one of those other bikes. It doesn't take a whole lot of dedication and downright love of one's bike to click through catalogs. Hell, anyone with a computer and a decent set of wrenches can build that.

Give me the owner in a cold shed or garage in the middle of the night with a soldering iron, some filler and sandpaper. Or the guys rebuilding a set of carbs for the second time and sharing their knowledge. or the guy modifying a CCT to hopefully make all of our lives better.

If there are sour grapes over this, I say too bad. We here on the Hurricane page know more about what has to go into keeping our fine bikes on the road and in superior condition after twenty five odd years. Don't complain if we applaud each others efforts.

I know I will applaud it every single time
