Question Fireblade or Blackbird

OK so I was daydreaming the other day while looking at bikes and noticed that the earlier Fireblades are a bit of a bargain now , early 900's from '98/'99 going for about £1400-£1900 with thirtyish K on the clock. One hell of a lot of bike for the money!

Earlier daydreams have always been about Blackbirds which go for about £500-£600 more for the earlier carb models .

So the question for the panel is what would you choose as a second bike or a replacement for your Hurricane , pros and cons for both models please before you vote and reasons behind your votes.

1. I can keep the Hurricane and have the Blackbird as well.

2. I can keep the Hurricane and have a Fireblade as well.

3. I'd go for a Blackbird to replace the Hurricane.

4. I'd go for a Fireblade to replace the Hurricane.

Please vote twice , one vote for 1 or 2 and one vote for 3 or 4

I've always thought that one day I may replace the Hurricane with a Blackbird , but I'm not sure it would be worth owning both , is the BB different enough for me to want to ride both .

Likewise would I be able to replace my Hurricane with a Fireblade for reasons of comfort , is it as reliable , how do parts costs compare , would a 'Blade with 30k be 'Goosed?'

Please let me know your thoughts , but don't worry I'm not jumping on a Fireblade or Blackbird any time soon , just thought it might make an interesting discussion

I would keep the Hurricane and get the Fireblade. The Blackbird is too much like the Cane. I've been looking at a 96 CBR900RR (Fireblade). 140 pounds lighter than the Cane and handles like a Duck. Plus, the paint (Erion edition) is much nicer than the black Blackbird. And like the Cane, the 900RR is a great streetbike.

Righto Hawk..firstly I haven't ridden either so my input will be as useful as t!ts on a bull. However, from what I've gathered, the 'Bird is much the same as ours but more of it i.e. a fast comfy sport tourer. Did I mention fast?. I'd ride a 'Blade like a madman 'cos I know I couldn't resist it, and what would be the point otherwise?

I toyed with the idea of one day 'upgrading' to a 'bird but, now the old girl is well and trully under my skin, I wouldn't bother. Mate, I couldn't really see the point in having both the 'cane and the 'bird, but I'd love a 'blade in the garage too (for those moments of insanity ) if my wallet and wife would handle it..neither will..

There endeth my

I'm for keepin the 1000F and add the 900RR. I am currently looking for a 93-94 White/Black/Red or a Silver/Black/Red 900 to go with my '94 W/B/R 1000F. The 1KF is our travelin machine with hard Givi bags, taller screen, and Corbin. The 900 would be the perfect compliment ride for a little more sport on the solo local runs. If I can find a nice "rider" I could entertain the idea of some track days.

I would probably have the 'Cane or Bird.... and a 929 blade or something like a 600RR.

When you say "fireblade" you're referring specifically to the 900RR/918RR/929RR/954RR/1000RR, right??

I like having the 'Cane for longer stints....but I like smaller, sportier, bikes too for different reasons.

But then I still need something for a little off-roading, too.... which is why I have the KLR. I like beating a caged thumper around in the mountains and in town while getting high 50's mpg.

Heresy.........................

Replace the Hurricane with a Hayabusa or a BMW K1200S, or a Blackbird (because parts are easier to find) or even a ZZR1200

I'm not into the "crotch rockets" - I'd be dead in a week on a Blade - the lead implant in my right wrist would make sure of that.....................gimme a big fast reliable tourer with lotsa *****......................

Now you can burn me at the stake !!!!!!

You Cheated! I feel sooo used I don't think I'll ever be able to trust you again Sprock

Know what you mean mate , if I had the space and the cash I'd probably have all three as well . The BB could be my ride while I was doing a nuts and bolts rebuild on the Cane
