I think (key word here is I THINK) some of the RAAF F-111 were replaced with the F15. The remainder of the F-111 and the F15 were eventually replaced with the F/A-18F (F=two seater).

There is some talk about the F-35 replacing the F/A-18E (single seat).

Bummer... I always liked watching the videos of the F-111's burning off fuel before they came in to land.

Yes we are expecting the F35 Strike Fighter in coming years as they retire the FA18 Hornets. We had the Mirage then the F111 then the Hornets over the past 30 or so years. We don't have carriers here anymore. We had the HMAS Sydney and the HMAS Melbourne many years ago but as they were decommissioned they weren't replaced.

To my retired RCAF (former AWACS Mission Commander) brother-in-law , I likened my CBR to an F-4 Phantom. Big, heavy, carries a large payload and is fast as hell.

Yep, and the Super Hornet is the interim replacement for F-111 until the JSF gets here......if ever it does? The "Classic" Hornets are on their way out.

Did a quick cruise of some modern warbirds forums. Comparable to an F-16. They said it was lighter and more maneuverable, but without the payload capacity. Still, all in all, a great front line interceptor with ground attack capabilities.

With the right weapon systems and in the hands of a good pilot. It would be a match for anyone
