Well done TBT, we certainly have a knowledgeable lot this corner of the forum!

Cheers, SB

PS:The pentatomid bugs are known as 'true bugs'. All insects are not bugs!

Sad old buggers, but quite fun.

Haven't seen hexadecimal since I used to mess with early computers.

Ok, what code is this?

English/ ??? /Translation
Fighter Plane/ Da-he-tih-hi/ Hummingbird
Dive Bomber/ Gini/ Chicken Hawk
Observation Plane/ Ne-ahs-jah / Owl
Bomber Plane/ Jay-sho /Buzzard
Aircraft Carrier / Tsidi-Ne-Ye-Hi/ Bird Carrier
Bombs / A-ye-shi/ Eggs
Amphibious Vehicle /Chal / Frog
Battleship/ Lo-tso /Whale
Destroyer/ Ca-lo/ Shark
Submarine/ Besh-lo / Iron Fish

Iwo Jima would've been a harder battle were it not for this code.

It was never broken in WWII

That's the Navajo/Dene language spoken by the Navajo code talkers ("Windtalkers") of WWII. (and the subject of a dreadful Nicholas Cage movie of the same name). =)

Well done indeed! Yes, it's an interesting history. Especially the high regard in which the Navajo code talkers were held. Stirling stuff and great men indeed.
