don't think the Tourmaster will do chit for me when that happens Dylan
have to plug motors in overnight just to get them to start in the morning
Well hell, on those days you could just wrap the jacket around the motor overnight.... then put it on yourself in the morning!

never forget it my arm went numb for 1/2 hour ...bloody painful
That chit can hurt like hell for a while. Even worse when it burns you externally, too.
I brushed a couple fingers against a coil on a transformer for a panel heater once. OUCH!

This all makes a little shock from your HT leads sound quite pleasant in comparison.

So I tried the heated jacket out this morning. It was 39F (3.9C).

I was wearing a t-shirt, heated jacket, thin button-up shirt, and my riding jacket. (in that order) I had the heat set on "low".
I was also wearing my regular leather gloves and helmet like always. Just wearing jeans as pants.

Honestly, I was surprised. My legs got a little chilly, but the rest of my body was warm (including my hands).
It was nothing like riding without it. 100% better.
I couldn't believe that my hands and feet stayed as warm as they did. If I had tried that ride without the heated jacket, my hands would have been frozen. I know this, because I've done it. Even in the mid-40s.
If I get a good base layer for my legs (I'm thinking coldgear now), and wear leather pants, I don't think I'll be cold in any temp.

The whole time, it felt like the sun was beating all over my chest, arms, and back. Very nice.
It's weird, though, because within 10mins of getting off the bike and unhooking the power, I could start to feel my temp dropping just from standing outside.
It was also a little strange being warm, but seeing my breath the whole ride to work.
Best part is that not only are you warm, but it's not bulky. You can easily move around.

Leather jeans will make a helluva difference too, as will a pair of silk inner gloves.
Sounds like you're good to go there Dylan !

That's exactly what I was thinking. My sister emailed me this morning asking me what I wanted for my birthday (again), so I told her either coldgear pants or silk glove liners.
It doesn't matter how many times I tell her that I don't want her to get me anything... she always gets me something anyway. It may as well be something I really want this year, right?
I'm still trying to decide on some new leather pants...

The silk glove liners are ok, but latex is better...and heated grips is even better than that. Careful though...I'm not sure that our bikes can do a heated jacket and grips at the same time w/o dipping under 12VDC. I know that on my 94 if I run my aux. driving lights, igh beam, and grips I dip under. Perhaps the heated jacket and grips are ok together as long as the high beam isn't involved?

Hmm...testing is in order.

BTW I rode in this morning...was 37f when I left the house. I was wearing my regular leather race gloves, the Carhartt bib overalls (quilted lining) and a textile jacket with the thermal liner in, and I was completely comfortable with the grips on, for a 30 min. ride. That said, the jacket is a little bulky w/ the liner in it...I think Ima gonna get me one of those Tourmaster jobbers...had one saved in my watch list on Ebay for like 18 months...maybe it's finally time to buy?

Haha! Hawk, you focker.. LOL.. I can't believe I actually fell for that. Or that I followed all three links!
(btw, very nice sprock.. )

Dave, It's funny that you mentioned what you did about silk vs. some of the others. I had just got done reading a reply from my sister that said:

I've been researching glove liners and cold weather gear- the consensus on silk liners is that they work for moderate weather but that the durability isn't necessarily great and they tend to fall down at cold temps. I have found a couple of different kinds in wool and synthetics that are well-reviewed, though.
I figured winter riding was what you had in mind, so I've been looking around for stuff that people like for that.
If they tell you anything, let me know. Thanks!
I was worried about the strain of the heated grips with the heated jacket, too. I checked the voltage the other day before the jacket and was running 13.2V@ 2k and 14.2V @ 3k.
You're right, more testing is definitely in order....

If you decide to get the jacket, I don't think you'll be disappointed. It works well.
I got mine at Helmet City. $162 shipped and it was here in 2days. It was $20 cheaper than ebay where I originally intended to get it.
