Kind of what I understood the system to work like, but surely in an F1 car, where weight is so critical, we are now talking about a battery to store this "energy" and then some sort of electric motor to make it available to you?

With all this extra gubbins we might as well make it a four seater and bring the wife and kids along for a Sunday outing as well.

It seems to give quite a power boost and must be okay as most of the F1 factory teams(the really rich ones) use it.

I'm told the improvement in performance outweighs the weight, WHEN it works.
When it doesn't it's quite a lot of extra pig-iron to lug around - as much as 1/2 sec per lap !
