Arizony biker shootes camera operator
'I DIDN'T MEAN TO HURT ANYBODY'
THE VICTIM AND THE SUSPECT: Speed camera operator Doug Georgianni (left) and the biker accused of shooting him, Thomas Patrick Destories.

An elderly Arizona biker has been arrested for shooting-up a speed-trap camera van with a .45 pistol, killing the operator inside.
Thomas Patrick Destories was riding his motorcycle when he was arrested on Monday on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Doug Georgianni, 51, who was shot Sunday night in the photo radar van.
Destories, 68, told police: "I'm sorry. I was going to turn myself in. I didn't mean to hurt anybody. I saw the shooting on the news. The gun is in the saddlebag."
Police found a magazine for a 45-calibre pistol in Destories' front pocket when they arrested him Many people assume phot radar vans aren't manned.
Phoenix police spokesman Sergeant Andy Hill said on Monday investigators determined a first-degree murder charge was appropriate because of an analysis of items found at the scene and statements Destories made to police.
Hill's comment came when asked about the assumption many people make that photo radar vans aren't manned.
Five large-calibre bullets hit the marked Department of Public Safety van. Three were grouped on the window of Georgianni's seat, police said.
Georgianni had worked for three months for RedFlex Traffic Systems, which has a state contract to operate the photo radar systems.
Arizona became the first US state to use photo speed enforcement on state highways last in 2008.
Critics say the programme is costly and unfair to motorists. Proponents say photo radar saves lives by slowing drivers and frees police to tackle other problems. - Sapa-AP

Answering this post fully would draw me into a (carrying gun discussion) which I am not going to get into...
Lest to say the guy in the van picked the wrong job and the total ******** on the bike will get his just deserts , no doubt ...
All sad ...
I think a FEW messages are hidden within this terrible tragedy...
BTW Pete , was a link meant to be in that post somewhere mate ??
( " Speed camera operator Doug Georgianni left " ) ??

Come on, Steve.... let it all out.
I'll talk about carrying with ya'!! I'll definately "go there".... it's what makes life fun!!
I've been shooting all my life (well, real guns at 7yrs). It's a dam shame that this biker has to make responsible adults pay for his actions. Just not right.
I think it's very sad that the guy in the van took a bullet. The guy on the bike is definately an irresponsible a-hole who deserves to be punished. 1st degree murder? Not so sure about that... This surely wasn't a premeditated type murder with a motive or something. Not really an accident, though, either. I mean..what the hell did he think he was doing!?

I figured someone would come on and say that, and you're right...
He was definately committing a felony at the time just by shooting the van.
No doubt he's done. Laws are weird sometimes, though. I guess if it was my family member, I wouldn't care how it happened, I'd want "justice".. ie..want him fried. Just seems to me like there should be a difference between trying to murder someone and it happening as a result of another crime that didn't intend to murder someone.
Definately a sticky situation...
Dumb a-hole..

Plain and simple
"The meek shall inherit the Earth!" F.ck that statement!!! I look at life this way. You want to control me? You are fair game. You want to make money controlling me? You get what I give you.... Too many people are chicken sh.it to die for what they believe in. That dude believed the van was controlling his right to live free. The van operator believed he was doing something to control people and support larger donut consumption!
That van frees the police to do what? Eat more F.cking donuts!??
I told my cousin the other day that the way I am going out is by getting the police's attention, lock the throttle on, have two 44 mags in my hands and commence firing!!! Controllers beware...
I think the biker with the gun should be let go and the van should be burned as a symbol or revolt.
Thomas Jefferson was one of the "Founding Fathers." (nothing against you Brit riders - just against governments who control) Jefferson said, "The first 100 years of government's existance, the government is for the people. The second 100 years, the government learns how to control the people. After 200 years, the government needs to be changed by the people." Well, we are over 200 years and Jefferson is right! Jefferson and the other boys believed in this free way of life and put their lives on the line for change. This biker dude is just a small reminder that Washington, Jefferson and the boys were right - one must consider dying for one's conviction on the belief that "freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose" (Janis Joplin).
Too bad the biker is now becoming chicken and recanting his actions. He would prolly (note the spelling Steve) get free legal support from the NRA, Skin Heads and others if he stood by his "control me and you face death" view of that photo van operator. If he stood by his actions, I would send him a $1,000 for his legal defense.
You are right Trout, I too would want to get the biker if he killed one of my family members, but if my own natural born brother worked a police contracted (get that police contracted - ring any alarms?) photo van, I would spread his ashes in the sewer and throw his ern in the dumpster!
P.S. I gave 10 years of my life defending this nation in the military and have a bullet scar in my right hip to say I did my part, so I earned the right to critize it. I would not give an hour to protect its present course of police state! Less police, less control, more freedom = less taxes and a happier people. Did you guys feel that coffee rush or what was that???
P.S.S. Felony? Under whose definition? Freedom act under mine - not guilty, give the biker more guns! Throw the van operator's ashes in the sewer and his ern in the f.uck.ng dumpster! The police are now getting contractors to take the bullet - chicken sh.t police. Or shall I say "State Sponsored Gang Members!" Where the f.ck is Robin Hood when you need him!? Must have got a second coffee rush.....

Come on Nevada , stop holdin' back and let it all out
I agree with a lot of what you said mate and especially with the Thomas Jefferson stuff , here in the UK our government is a lot older than your's so we got no chance at all
Speed cameras are just a way for the state to sting you for a buck and cameras in vans are even worse , if you want people to slow down in a particular place have a camera but paint it bright colours with flashing blue lights on top , but hey we call them cop cars

Come on, Hawk!! Don't say you have no chance!! There is always a chance!!
Preach it brother Nevada!!
People can only be pushed so far.
I could go on for hours, but I won't. Let's just say that I agree with much more of what Nevada said than not. And this is just the beginning. This country is in for a long hard road ahead if sheeple don't get their heads out of their a$$es. I feel for the poor guy in the van (and moreso his family), but I've also been smacked around by cops for next to nothing.
I almost had my arm broken by a cop one time for reaching for registration papers. Also had a gun pulled on me after being pulled over for speeding in my car.
I'm a registered and active Libertarian, and we'll leave it at that.
I'm tired of a huge court system that's doing nothing but spending tax dollars filling jails with potsmokers, drunk drivers, and people with unpaid tickets. It's a joke.
I'm also tired of small town police with nothing to do, following me around on my motorcycle to try and get me to slip up. It's BS.
And I'm also tired of people going against the ideals of the constitution to try and disarm me and make me weaker in the eyes of the government and criminal element.
Wait, I said I wouldn't go on... Sorry.

Coffee and blood pressure
Hawk, I feel for my Brit brothers, but lets face it, your country's people started this country along with other countries and then they "Slapped the Queen and King" by saying no to a Tea Tax. One tax, one cup of tea. I say, those ancestors of your old country were heros. I applaud you Brits and say that you can do something!!! I use to party with the Special Forces Brits who came to PyongTech, Korea (Camp Humphreys). Great bunch of guys! What happened was you all gave up the right to Bare Arms....
Mr. Trout, I'm with you brother. I have had good cops and bad cops in my life. The good ones were only good because I fixed their f.cking Harleys for a "get out of jail free card." On Hwy 20 in Lake County, I blew by a CHP at 120 mph with my wife on back of our Valkyrie! Greg let me go because he knew my bike (I also wear a yellow helmet and yellow jacket for that reason - they know it) and he knew his Harley needed more hp with a carb swap, pipes and cams. In fact, he laughed and yelled out in the mic "Slow down Animal or the CHP might get you." I also had the Chief Deputy Sheriff as a riding buddy in Lake County. Jeff gave me a Sheriff's "get out of jail free card" because I took care of his and his wife's Harleys. The problem with being a friend with a cop is they are always a cop and never your true friend. I spent some time in jail for headbutting a cop who thought he was tuff. Grabbed his skinny a.s by his hair and gave him a good Rugby Scrum headbutt!!! Pulled his gun away from him (Army taught me how to do that!) and threw it in the Napa River! He did not like that, but the problem for him was, my cousin was his boss!!! And my motor officer Uncle (God bless his soul) was both of their boss. See? Minimum jail time for those who are connected to cops!
I need to get decaf..... My blood pressure is up with the control issue....
P.S. I do feel for the van driver's family for they did need food to eat, but when you support the authorities be prepared to lose, for the authorities will never give you the power that they have! Kind of like hanging around with the Hell's Angels. You are not a Hell's Angel so when the sh.t hits the fan, you are on your own.... The van driver was not a cop and he was doing what we pay the cops to do - control us!!! F.CK ME, I didn't just say I pay to control myself, did I?!!!
