Default 94 1000F vs 1986 V65 magna...why me

All
My 88 Hurricane didn't draw this much attention and it did pretty well. I don't know what it is about the 1000f maybe the colors, but most sport bikes and some cruiser bikes want to take a stab at her. Revving up their engines, coming up next to me and hitting the throttle hard then letting off. Maybe its like the lion of the jungle except on the asphalt. There is always someone that want to challenge you. My 94 1000F is black, white and red. Apparently the bike makes statement more than I would have thought. She is fast but lets face it there are a lot of fast bikes out there. I ran a heavly modded 2008 R6 and it was damn close actually pretty much even to about 80. I would not even think of running a new CBR 1000 , Zx14, busa or blackbird. Now a TL1000R anytime. My old Hurricane stayed ahead of one of those and a R6 a few years ago. But she was geared 16/44. My 94 is stock 17/42.

Now I have a old friend that says his V65 Magna will out run my 94 1000F. I really don't see that happening its stock, 70-80 lbs heavier and down on hp, I think around 116 hp. My bike has a exhaust and KN filter. Not really into racing that much but I would like to put another notch on the belt. LOL So does this V65 stand a chance. I don't think it does but wanted to know what you all thought.

The V65 is no slouch, man. lol...

Honestly, I think it would be a pretty good race. Don't forget to record it (in HD).

I remember that our late friend Tim used to run 15/45 on his 93...........................
and he blew even 1000RRs, Suzuki GSXR1000, the lot into the weeds.
The top end was well down but by that stage the race is well and truly over.

I ran 15/42 on mine and a Blade couldn't stay with me.........................but the fuel bill was nasty................

You can make any bike go a lot faster but there's always a trade-off - you add boost, either turbo or nitrous, but then the trade-off is reliability and engine life. Gearing chops your top end speed.............

And FWIW - the V65 with 81BHP AND shaft drive - it shouldn't even be close.

My buddy has a Ducati ST4 with 108BHP and after the first 100 yards where he torque gets him ahead by a bike length, the race is over when I hit second gear.......... running std 17/42 gearing.

At the end of the day the question really is
Is it fast enough for YOU ? If it is, the rest is irelevant.

Wow 15/42 Shadow man I bet that thing was a wheeling machine if you weren't careful. I bet the guy in the Ducati was surprised. My old Hurricane with 16/43 would carry the front wheel a couple inches off the ground when really getting on her, that was in 1st and then shifting into 2nd gear. I noticed the fuel mileage did drop when running the 16/43 vs the stock gearing. I am going to keep her stock gearing, am plenty happy with the performance. The mileage is pretty good also. I don't use the bike to commute like I did the old Hurricane. So the she wont be racking up the miles going back and forth to work. may take her occasionally.

Kilgoretrout- this guy claims he takes out pretty much anything to 100 mph and can hang in the corners with a lot of sport bikes. I know if I go to the mountains with him he will have to stay behind me as I don't want him going down in front of me. I know the V65 has a tough reputation and in its day was a fast bike. Might add they ran in the low 11's at 118 mph looking back at some road tests. The 94 CBR 1000F ran high tens at 124 mph. All with a professional driver of course. Your right the V65s are no slouch though. We are planning on running up at the local drag strip and will record it

I took the Ducati on with 17/42 gearing. If I'd taken him on with 15/42 he'd probably have sold it the next day.................
And yes the bike is a beast with 15/42 - not so much for wheelies, more rear tyre smoking on pull away...........

I don't think the race will happen for awhile. He apparently was racing another bike this weekend and something let go in the motor. Sounds like the the cam tensioner let go and now there is alot of noise (marbles in a tin can)
I guess V4s had tensioner issues also.

Engine will start and immediately jumps way up 3-4k rpm when idling. Really don't know what is going on. V4 engine is foreign to me. I had a 1985 Honda interceptor 700cc about 30 yrs ago. Ran good, never gave me any problems.
But I didn't run the crap out of it either. This V65 has been run hard and put up wet.

The 88 CBR1000F was a touch faster than the V65 Magna and Sabre's. The Sabre's were easier to launch at the strip than the Magna's but neither were great at launching. I had a V65 Sabre and it was fast but I always felt that my 88 1000F would beat it. I think the 94 CBR1000F is a touch faster than the 88.

I would agree with what you said. I told him the CBR1000F is good for 155-162 mph top end depending on what road test magazine you read. He chuckled and then said his bike will run out to 177 mph. Which is total BS. Now he is running into Blackbird territory. I researched the V65 Magna and found several sites that say the stock HP was in the 116-118 hp range. The Honda 87-96 1000cc were rated at 130-135 hp. Plus the Magnas were 60-80 lbs heaveir than the canes. I got a original Motor Cyclist magazine from 1987 that I bought through ebay a couple years ago. The Honda Hurricane 1000 was the fastest out of the top 4 manufacturers with a top speed of 161 mph and a 10.81 @ 128.6 mphs in the 1/4. I dont remember seeing a V65 Magna in the competition.

Magna is geared down and runs to 122 MPH. He is a deluded fool if he thinks it'll do 177MPH.
Compare this to 161 MPH for the 1000F.
I don't even think you'd need -1 +2
Just -1 on the front and any of the marques will blow him away.
I still reckon they'll do it with standard gearing.................
