F4i Air ducts LED turn signals...
1 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone!!
Before anything I want to say that this is a "Reloaded" version of the How to did by Axsys. Check it here. So, lets make it... In a few words, if you have flushmounts in your F4i, its very difficult for everyone else to see you turn signal from the front of the bike, so like Axsys did but with more leds, I put exactly 20 superbright leds in each air duct. Parts Needed: -40 superbright Leds (a few more would be ok) -Red/Black wire -Solder Tools -8 Resistors, exactly for RED superbright LEDS, 180 ohms 1/4w -Glue Gun -Silicon sealant. Step 1. Take your front upper fairing off, disassemble the 2 air ducts grills that are attached to the fairing. At this point you have to choose which design to make, remember you have 20 leds to use. I put 10 leds one step before the top an the other 10 on the outter side of the grill. (You'll see them in the pics) Step 2. You have to make 4 series of 5 LEDs for each side, you have to solder the + to the - of the next led, at the end of the 5th led you have the negative leg and there you need to solder the resistor. Like this Attachment 11559 .....:icon_wink: |

:icon_urinal:....
Step 3. Once you have the 8 series of 5 leds (4 series each side) looks like this... Attachment 11564 Be carefull to NOT solder all series of leds equally, depending on the design you choose you gonna have to measure the space needed between each led. For my design i have to solder for 1 series 4 leds with no space between and the 5th led with a space of about 3mm. Attachment 11565 Now you have to paste each series in the air duct grill with the glue gun like this... Check the bottom led, that's the space i told you above... Attachment 11566 Cheers!!!:icon_shrug: Attachment 11567 with 2 series Attachment 11568 with 3 series Attachment 11569 :icon_urinal:..... |

Sorry the attachment didnt work, the 4 series looks like this
Attachment 11570 Step 4. Now that you have all leds series in the grills you have to start wiring all. You can join all positive + and all negative - wires like i did. Attachment 11571 Attachment 11572 Attachment 11573 Attachment 11574 |

Step 5.
Now that you have all wired up, you have to hide all wires and after that put some sealant above the wires to protect it from water. Check out theres no wire left without sealant, also check the connections that has been covered with enough sealant. Attachment 11575 Attachment 11576 Attachment 11577 Putting silicone sealant :icon_blah::icon_blah::icon_blah: Attachment 11578 Attachment 11579 :icon_hyper::icon_call:..... |

Attachment 11580
Attachment 11581 Attachment 11582 Now hold all wires with a zip tie to the bottom of the grill. Attachment 11583 Attachment 11584 Ok, so now you are almost done, you just have to connect the wires to the turn signals and YOU'RE DONE :icon_denk:. I know that i miss some steps :icon_doh: but you can ask if you feel a little confuse. ---:icon_teeth: |

The results....
Attachment 11585 and i also put on my headlight a Led strip, how does she looks?? :icon_pimp::icon_denk: Attachment 11586 Attachment 11587 Attachment 11588 I feel very happy with the results, in a few weeks i'll make the same for the passenger pegs, i'll post it when i do it... :icon_beerchug: |
Hey, nice howto think i'm going to try this. One question, where did you get you're leds from?

Sorry to bring up a oldish thread but do you have pics without the flash? I don't have front signals at all and I'm thinking about doing something like this.
|
i never thought of that. great work i am gonna have to try something like that on my bike
i'll post pics when i get around too it |
Sorry, I've been busy, but here i am!!!

I tried something like this a while ago...Ended up ripping it out because i didnt like seeing the leds even though im the only one that would notice it. I might try something else this winter mounting them further inside maybe?
Good work john! |

So... here they are boys!!!!
To me they looks GREAT.... At night Attachment 12463 At daylight... Attachment 12462 |
Good job, John. They look nice! I'll probably try this myself but like redz said, I'm going to try to do it in a way that the led's won't be visible until the signal is flashing. Thanks for the write-up, bro. Made it look easy.
|
I want to do this, but I'm not trying to make it look like I just threw some LEDs in my air ducts. I want to hide them the best I can, so is it acceptable to use VHT nightshades on the LEDs? Any other ideas?

I did this mod as well but I took the easy way and used the side mounted SMD strip and wrapped it inside.
They are wired up as running lights/turn signals but I'm not sure if I should keep them that way or just make them turn signals. You can't tell they are there with the bike off since the strip is black. I couldn't quite get the bend radius at the bottom because it was very tight and I didn't want to snap any solder joints. Here is what they look like: Attachment 48867 Attachment 48868 |
ooh I like that, but I'm sure I would get yelled at for them not being orange. Maybe I'll try to find those strips in orange, we'll see.

Dead Thread revival. I did this today cuz i kicked off my cheap chinese signal mirrors cuz they pissed me off so much. Stock mirrors and LED vents with flush mounts will do. They are pretty visible at all angles even in full sunlight.

That looks sick. I'll be doing mine soon, I have to come up with a design I want. I have one in mind but still open to ideas. I don't want to steal yours...but It'll be hard cause I like yours so much
|
Go for it and steal it lol. I just stacked 4 layers of 3m double sided tape on the back and ran it along the back side of the little ledge on the vent. and wired it up. O did it in 2 pieces to make running it easier but it can be done in one.
|
Just use the brightest leds you can find and be careful with the resistors cause you can blow the leds....
|
Yeah I have LEDs sitting in my room from superbrightleds.com and resistors to match. I've been doing a TON of led stuff lately...
Can I ask a stupid question? Pleease?? If so: How do you get into the air duct? What do you need to remove? And how do you remove the front fairing holding the headlights? (probably a beginner question...I've worked on bikes before but don't want to accidentally pull wires apart) If not: nevermind |
i have used them LEDs:: DIY, Superflux, 12V Prewired LEDs, LED Kits and more before. they are cheap and you can get everything you need for your project.
|
eh I don't like oznium because they don't really offer a variety of led's...at superbright I can make compromises between brightness and viewing angle, led size, etc etc. oznium seems to only have one viewing angle (30 degrees which is still good) and only one brightness for each color (example: a 5mm white led is only offered in 30 degrees and 8000 mcd, while at superbright I can get a 5mm in the following specs:
White clear 1500 120° x=.29;y=.30 T-1 3/4 RL5-W4575 White clear 4500 75° x=.29;y=.29 T-1 3/4 RL5-W8045 White clear 8000 45° x=.29;y=.28 T-1 3/4 RL5-W2545 White clear 2500 45° x=.27;y=.27 T-1 3/4 RL5-W18030 White clear 18000 30° x=.27;y=.27 T-1 3/4 RL5-W6030 White clear 6000 30° x=.30;y=.32 T-1 3/4 RL5-W3030 White clear 3000 30° x=.27;y=.27 T-1 3/4 RL5-W5020 White clear 5000 20° x=.31;y=.32 T-1 3/4 RL5-W6018 White clear 6000 18° x=.31;y=.32 T-1 3/4 RL5-W18015 White clear 18000 15° x=.29;y=.29 T-1 3/4 RL5-W10015 White clear 10000 15°) So that's why I prefer superbrightleds.com |

The front fairing is attached to both side fairings, the V fairing and the mirrors.

If not find it here and download it, It has evertything in it from small to big projects. I plan on taking the side fairings off to get to the flush mounts (I'm installing them hopefully today). So I'll remove the mirrors...but are there wires, headlights, anything attached to the upper fairing once I remove the mirrors, side fairings, and the two bolts (one on each side) that connect it to the ram air covers? |
Not sure I've ever posted on this site before?! This is just to say NICE JOB and to save the thread! ;)
John, Where's the footpeg job??? |

Here's a How to: https://cbrforum.com/forum/how-mecha...signals-10430/ |
how did you fit 25 leds in each footpeg?!!!
Ps: I tried doing the leds in the air ducts. All I have to say is hooooly ****. Most miserable experience of my life. I had wires everywhere and it was so sloppy that in the end I said I can't do this to my baby so I ripped everything out. I'll take the headlight apart and put orange strips in there for blinkers, but looks like the led's in the air ducts isn't happening for me :( sorry |
