Default Yoshi RS-5 FULL (street legal?)

2006 600RR here, looking at the Yoshi RS-5 full system but the website has the following notation:

For Closed Course Competition Use Only. Not Intended for Street Use.

So this system would not pass state inspection or what other reason would this be?

what state? some states are stricter than others. here in cali, the dont inspect bikes yet. usually that disclaimer refers to elimination of cat converters. here, its "illegal" to modify any exhaust and/or remove emission control devices, but they dont check. if you get stopped for being too loud, or if a cop wants to screw with you, they may add it on to your ticket.

is there a state inspection for motorcycles there or would they check that closely?

if they do, save your old exhaust and put it back on for inspection.

ask harley guys in your area, most of them change exhausts and are very noisy...

When the manufacturer state that its usually refers to sound decible level as they generally include a straight through baffle with minimal reduction on exhaust DB.

Legal levels vary from state to state.

many times a manufacturer wont get the EPA certification for that set up for one reason or another. it costs a lot of $$$, sound levels may be too high, non-catalyst, or not enough demand for the general public to justify the trouble of certifying it. they get around it by claiming "race use only" or "not for street use". they are just protecting their butts legally, but really intend for people to use it on the street.

You can't "EPA" certify an exhaust, they're only tested for DB levels and its not a big deal to do.

all exhaust, and parts related to emissions (like cams and air cleaners) in california, need to be CARB (cal air resources board) approved.
