Wont start! Help!
Hello guys wondering if anyone can help me with some issues i am having!
i have not started my bike for a few weeks, Went to go out on it today and it failed to start i just thought the battery would be flat so i got the jump leads out got it started and left it for a few minutes. I was about to get on and take it for a drive to charge the battery up and it cut out. i tried to start it again and it just made a clicking sound (sounds like it is coming from behind the battery) got the jump leads out again and had the same problem!
so pretty much wont start unless jump leads are connected but even then can seem to keep it ticking over long enough to take it out on a run about.
not herd the clicking noise before.
any help is much appreciated,
thanks Chris.

The clicking makes it sound like a bad starter, but obviously it IS starting. My next guess would be what mine started out as: the charging system. Regulator and rectifier. I have other issues ay the moment, but thats how mine started out. I could jump it, but the charging system couldn't keep it up, or maintain the bike running, and it would die very quickly.

There are a couple of tests you can make to check the battery to see if it is getting a charge before buying anything. If you have a volt meter or one of those multi meters, connect the leads across the battery terminals, then jump start the bike with the jump leads. See how many volts show on the meter. You should get between 13.5 and 14.2 volts when you rev the engine over 3500 revs. If you are getting a good charge it is probably not the alternator or the rectifier, but a duff battery. If you can't access a volt meter, start the bike then put your headlight on. Rev the engine and watch for an increase in the light intensity. If it brightens up then the charging system should be ok. I'd substitute the battery for a good one and see if that cures the fault before buying a new one. Some depots that sell and fit batteries usually check your charging system and battery for free to get a proper diagnosis. Might be worth a try!
Or while its running, disconnect the battery. If it cuts out, your charging system is toast. Though if it does still run, cut off the engine before reconnecting (and don't let it run long on just the charging system). The rectifiers in these things are already sensitive as it is.
