won't drop into gear - is this a "slipped clutch"
I've done some searching on old posts, but don't see any descriptions that sound like what my bike is doing... [Only had my license for a couple months, so still a newbie.]
When I get up into the higher gears, then need to stop quickly, sometimes it won't shift down through the gears. I was at a stop sign and couldn't get her to go down to first -- kept stepping on the gear shift pedal, but it was completely smooth with no click down through the gears.
I started in 2nd, then pulled over and messed with it to get it down to 1st. It's happened a few times, but not all the time - usually it's good as I downshift approaching a stop sign or light. When it gets stuck like I described, if I release the clutch lever, it drops into whatever gear it was near. It seems to be floating in no-mans-land, unless I release the lever.
The bike is a 91 CBR F2. I don't know how many miles because the odometer cable was busted when I bought it. Somewhere > 10,000. Not well maintained but she's pink and blue and beautiful.
Whaddya think? What's the price tag to replace the clutch?

If I'm reading it correctly, thats completely normal... The bike needs to be moving in order for it to change gears, so roll it forward while shifting. Or if you are sitting still, you can hold the shift lever down with your foot, and slowly let off the clutch, and it will shift down
this is normal. what you can do is just walk the bike forward while holding in the clutch lever while in 2nd gear and you should find it easier to click it down into 1st right away .
Thats why we're here...to learn and share knowledge. Dont let the flamers run you off, there's a few sphincters on here. Got any Qs just do a search first, then ask. Most issues have been covered a time or three. Ride safe.
