wierd ticking/rattling noise...any ideas?
So a few weeks ago I noticed a "ticking" noise when i accelerated between 2000-7000 rpm...
the noise is now more pronounced, and sounds more like a rattling. again, I can only hear it when accelerating between 2-7, after that it seems to go away.
I was thinking exhaust... but i'm really not sure. maybe the belt?
any ideas?
I hope I dont have to take it into the shop because im broke.....
I've got a '98 cbr f3 with low miles, only about 12000, engine still seems to perform as it did before the wierd noise was noticed
Thanks for the help

CCT refers to cam chain tensioner. If your tech minded and able to do the work yourself, I highly recommend getting the manual chain tensioner. The automatic tensioner is fine until it wears out again. Then you have to spend 50 - 100 dollars on a new one. Like I said if you can do the work yourself buy the manual one, and everytime you hear that ticking noise just pull your tank back up and adjust it. I did mine at the beginning of this season and have only had to adjust it once in 4,000 miles. Something to think about when looking to buy one. There are a few posts around the web that have detailed instructions and photos. The work is tedious and in a cramped space next to the frame, but can save you money in the long run.

CCT, that's the bad new. Good news is that it's a relatively cheap fix & you can do it yourself with little stuffing around. You can probably leave it for a short time while you save up the Readies/Funds. But the increasing noise will drive you nuts.
I've seen a few sites that sell Honda bits in the US pretty cheap (much cheaper than wot we have pay) You can either go for the OEM type or the popular manual one.
There is a "How to" in the F3 section.
