Default What is the smallest tire on a F1 F2 rear rim ??

I'm putting F1 or F2 wheels on my old VTR 250 to do some track days with my buds on Ninja 250's/

The front wheel is not a problem, but I want to put a 140 on the rear wheel... is that possible? In fact if I could put a 130 on there I would. These 250's don't have much grunt.

Does anyone know ?

Thanks

subscribed. i've got a XS 650 I'm doing a swingarm swap and F2 rear rim on, but might run into width/clearance issues.

160/60s have such a perfect profile on F2 rears I'd be weary to put anything smaller on them. F1s use much smaller rubber. F1s use 130/80 stock in the rear, which is pretty damn small. That prett much limits you to Dunlop GT501s or some exotic Avon race tires if you go the F1 route. You can get very good rubber on the F2 rims without going to expensive Race tires like you'd need to with Hurricane wheels. Just some food for thought, do you want better meats or lighter wheelsets?

How hard is it to put a F2 swingarm on the XS650?

I've actually started to use a Ninja250 swingarm on the VTR250. The pivot bolts are different but I've been able to get that figured out. I'm using a R6 rear shock with a combination of VTR and Ninja shock linkage. My geometry is about the same as OEM, the rear is raised slightly.

It is easier to use a F2 swingarm, but shock linkage can be a problem.

I'm using ZX6r forks, just switched triple tree stems.

I can get 140 race slicks for the rear, that's as large as I really want to go. I'm lucky if I have 40 hp in that VTR. I'm just concerned that a 160 rear is a lot to turn. But you are right I would rather have a soft/sticky wide tire than a hard narrow tire.

Thanks for the help,
 Pat
