Hi guys, i recently bought a 2005 cbr 1000rr. does any body elses bike slap into first gear from neutral?? and also do u notice a slight ticking sound from lets say 2,400 rpm to like arround the 4,000 range??? Any help would be appreciated

 

Ya, a noticeable clunk into first from N . My zooks all did that too. The engine does make ticking noises -- normal. Most machines capable of 180+mph make some mechanical noise. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts sounding like a grinding or knocking noise.

My 05 600RR clunks into 1st from N too. It also clunks but not as bad from 1st to 2nd. Shifting from 2nd on up my bike shifts real smooth. I noticed my buddy’s 05 ZX-10 does the same thing. In fact while getting my first service done I had the tech ride my bike and asked him the same question and he said they all do that.

 

As far as the ticking goes... I believe those are just the lifters clattering along. I hear it pretty well too but it's nothin to worry about.

 

Agreed... the ticking noise is a non-worry. I've had 2 R1's that did that, as well as my '05 RR.

Every Honda that I've ever owned 1-VFR, 2-900RR's, a F4i & my 1000RR clunk into first from N. Yamahas, too.

My 600RR ticks in that rev range when it is not warmed up. Once warmed up, the ticking goes away.

 

hey guys. All engines will tick as the valve train will make noise as they warm and cool as the clearances change slightly, so depending on the materials used some parts will expand and some contract.
