vin mismatch?
I have no idea who else to call. I have called the manufacturer, I have called the dealership where the work was done, and I have called the DMV. No one can tell me why this has happened or how to correct it.
Back story: The bike was part of a theft recovery 200 miles into owning it way back when it was first bought. The bike was successfully recovered and returned to the original owner and part of the work that was done to it was a frame replacement. It went through three owners and was successfully registered every time, but now it is my turn to buy it off the current owner and he explained the issue to me. Basically, the vin sticker is missing a digit from way back when the frame replacement was done. I could not find an imprinted vin anywhere, which makes me assume that they just never put one on it and simply went based off the sticker, but somehow every time it gets maintenance done, the accurate vin listed on the title (and what would have been the original frame) is used, which tells me that somewhere on the bike the correct vin is listed. Is this a non-issue, or should I communicate to the owner that this needs to be corrected before I can purchase the bike from him. No one has had an issue so far, but I don't want to be the one to get screwed.
