Default Using current pads with new discs?

Hi, I put Brembo pads on around 1500 miles ago. I have bought new brake discs and about to install.

Is there any real problem with refitting the Brembos or is it just a case of gradually bedding them to the new discs? Or should I use new pads no matter what?

Plenty of meat on the Brembos and they're a great stopping pad IMO. New discs are wavey btw, if that makes any diff.?

Cheers.

You should be fine using those pads.

I would rub them lightly on a metal file or very fine sandpaper to smooth the pad surface before installing them, but that's up to you.

Cheers man. They're on now but I managed to sheer a feckin pinch bolt, how big of a disaster is that? Do I need to have it sorted before riding??

If you have 2 bolts on each side like I do, you can ride it. I would get it sorted ASAP though.

Friggin torque wrench, did the others fine then the clutch side outer just sheared!! If anything, it was the disc bolts I was afraid of stripping/shearing :/

I’ve sheared off a disc bolt with a torque wrench, my fault as I read it incorrectly and set it far too high, but felt at the time I was over tightening it. The lesson learnt is not always to use a torque wrench use your experience and instincts, when it’s tight it’s tight.

+1

Torque wrenches are great, but most of us (me included), will not want to spend a fortune on a good one.

I only use them on head bolts, main caps, and connecting rod caps. All the places that accurate tightening for bolt stretch is crucial. The rest of the time I rely on my over 30 years of tightening stuff to do it just right.

Those pinch bolts get a snug with a wrench and that's it. The some safety wire just cuz.

I mainly bought it for the disc bolts as it seems important everything should be bang on in that part. Prob wasn't necessary for the pinch bolts but as it was there, I used it, live 'n' learn.

Had to be a weak bolt, unless you really cranked down on it.
