Default Tire pressures?

I have a 05 cbr 600rr and I was just wondering what do you guys usually set your tire pressure too? The manual says to set it to max P.S.I. that the tires are rated for but I dunno.

That's what the front is rated for and the back is 42...

We run 36 and 42 in ours on the street. If I take it on a track, then I'm usually running about 30 in both.

Many schools of though for this one...In my opinion, a lot will depend on what your weight is and if you travel solo or with a passenger. If your heavy, say over 250lbs, or run with a passenger often, I'd run the max. If your a solo rider and weigh under 250lbs, I'd say you can experiment with lower air pressures. A 100lb rider will have a different need than 300lb rider given the same bike to obtain maximum traction.

If you run too low of pressure for your combined weight, you can feel it in the bike, especially with tracking. the bike tends to wonder and feel odd while trying to go in a straight line. Also, the flickability of the bike can be diminished. It can also lead to odd wear characteristic on the tires such as cupping. Run too high of pressure for your combined weight, and the tires will not conform to the roads surface properly, and traction will be diminished.

Having said those things, If your not an aggressive rider, such as in the corners, there's really no point in running lower than max air pressure. You'd benefit the most from running max pressure and getting better mileage and more life out of your tires. even if your 100lbs, the max pressure will be fine for casual riding situations.

Also depends on the tires. Max load ratings are just that; if you run less than max load, you can drop PSI accordingly depending on the tires. What kind of tires?

After a squirrely ride home, appearently my rear was "set" at 22 psi. I immediately fired up the compressor and threw in 20 more pounds. Max psi in ALL my tires, and 5 extra in the van when traveling. (only on long trips, for better gas mileage)

Arggh! I only know of one tire that takes 22 psi rear, and you sure wouldn't want it on the street!

Everybody, always check psi before every ride!

I ride a few pounds under Max just for a little more traction 40 rear and 32 front if i recall correctly and also have Nitrogen in ALL my tires, defenetly worth it! Especially recommended on bikes IMO.

Metzeller Sportec m1's. I got the bike like that, from what I have read they are a good brand meant to compete with top brands. Anyone have any reviews?
