Default Time for brakes???

My bike (03 600rr with apporx 12K miles) makes a veryslight metal to metal ribbing noise which sounds like its coming from the front. I can only hereit when coastingup to a stop light, ect..Again, sorry if this is stupid Q because im only about 3 weeks into owning the bike.

You can check to see if you pads are within their limits, have a look from the back of the calipers, I use a small torch. There are lines that indicate the wear, sometimes hard to see if covered in dust or dirt. If the previous owner replaced them with sintered pads, which are a hard compound, then you can get that noise, same if your front pads are glazed (worn to a smooth shiny condition). Really worn brakes usually squeal when applied. Other causes can be a warped disc, but that usual gives a "pulse" sensation through the brake lever at any speed. Don't get worried yet, check the pads 1st, if they seem ok & your brakes are working fine, then I reckon its probably sintered or glazed pads. Since you only just got the bike & your worried, replace em, cheap peace of mind.

It makes the noise without even applying the brakes. Youre pry right, because I new to owning a bike, im probably alittle over-protective. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
