Default Ticking low, Rattling high

I just got some little things fixed on my bike, an 89 cane, and i took it for a short run (about 45 minutes through the twisties and a few long fast straights), and im noticing a slight ticking when at idle (i cant get it it run at idle without choke, not sure if it supposed to or not ~shrugs~) and a rattle around 5000~6500 rpm, im thinking cam chain tensioner for the med rpm rattle.
could it be that i puta lower octane in the tank (89), its been running on 93 since i got it. any ideas on what is causing the low end ticking? could it be that my bike likes the higher octane, or am i starting to toss a rod or spin a bearing.

thanks in advance
Lith

It is most likely the cam chain tensioner. That is a part that is very well known to cause rattle and ticking. I have the same problem with my F2, at first I thought it was a low grade fuel issue then someone said bad CCT.

I would have to say tensioner as well, the two things I duid on my bike is 1) cam chain tensioner and 2)valve clearences.

well, i just rolled over 16k so i guess i can have em do the cam tensioner when i get my tune up done next payday.

would valve clearance cause a problem if left unchecked for two weeks of riding?

Well Iv been thinking about that myself. I would think so prolonged use might prematuraly wear the sides that its flapping on. I was riding my xr285 racer and the cam chain actually broke (1.3km from the nearest road, black fly season) and the bike stalled in gear and just couldn't crank it over.My question is, if your riding a Street bike what would happen? Would the bake wheel lock as the bikes in gear and running? Pretty scarey Id think I was luky I was just in first on my dirt.

No I think valve clearences would, its better that there a little loose then too tight. I was looking at the manual and you can do yourself a little time comsuming but hey thats part of bikes as well.

Has any body ever heard of an adjustable cam sprocket? I have one on my Xr and I love it.
