do you connect the negative pole of the charger to the negative contact on the battery or do you ground it out to the frame? the instructions that come with the tender say that if your bikes system is positively grounded then connect to the battery, but if it is negatively grounded then to go to the frame. i seem to remember it being negatively grounded but idk. 01 f4i btw.

 

I`m not sure what kind of charger you have, but yes, red goes on positive and black on negative (on the battery). That`s the way the charger/tender is on my bike with the quick connect.
BTW, I could be wrong, but I don`t think they make positively grounded vehicles anymore.

 

I connected my battery tender junior to the battery.

but i have no idea if that was the right thing to do because my battery is shot anyways so i haven't had a chance to use it.

 

I do beleive our bikes are negative ground, but I placed mine on the battery itself just to be sure.

 

Just did a quick search on "positive ground". Seems like prior to the late 1960’s, vehicles used 6V systems which were positively grounded. With the advent of the 12V system, negative grounds became the norm. Watercraft & airplanes might be different though.

hey i had my battery just about die, i need to buy the tender, which amperage do i get, one was like 1.25 amps and the other 750miliamps....both 12 v....so which one to buy?

one is $30 and one is $70 at pep boys by my house...hoping its the cheaper one i need....

 

Unless you hate Walmart, you can pick up the Schumacher Battery Companion for $20 there. 1.5 amps/12 volt

 

The lower the amperage the better, but I don't think the 1.25 amp charger will hurt your battery as long as it has an auto shut off.

 

The higher the amperage, the quicker it will charge. If it has auto shutoff either will work.
