Default Swingarm Spools

Morning my fellow CBR buddies....

I've got a GOOOOOOD question... So I bought some swingarm spools for my 2001 Honda CBR F4i and some stands for the front and the rear. Well when I went to put the spools on I don't see where to put them. I checked inside the axle looking for some threads to screw them in to, I looked on the swingarm for a hole to screw them in to, I looked underneath the swingarm and found nothing. I'm wondering if I bought the wrong stand for my CBR. I know they make stands that will set undertneath the swingarm...I wonder if that's what I need to get?!?!? Help me out here fellas!

Thanks,
James

Hey bud... you will either have to drill/tap the swingarm to accept the spools or you'll have to go with a universal stand that doesn't use them and just lifts from the bottom.

i dont want to thread jack here, but is there *any* other point for swingarm spools? is there something about them that makes it better to lift by? it seems to me like "they" made swingarm spools just so they could make a slightly different stand and make you have to buy more **** lol. i have been wondering this as i am going to be buying a stand soon and was going to go with the standard one that lifts from the swingarm itself.

I use stands that have L shaped supports that lift the swingarm from the underside because the F3 doesn't have a way (built in) to attach the Spools. This type works fine for most things. There are times when I wish I had the spools. The spools are inherrently more stable by the fact that they sit in a groove on the stand. With the L shaped supports, the swingarm is free to slide side to side, or even slide from front to back. I use my stands when I'm washing my bike as well as for maintenance, but I have to be careful that when soaping the swingarm, I don't put too much pressure on it, or it will move. I've thought about getting the internal thread parts that go inside the swingarm that you can then drill and screw the spools into. I know that some users here have done something like that on their bikes.

I went with a standard "L" shaped Pitbull swingarm stand, and once I get the bike up on it, it's as stable as can be! Having said that, it seems to me that those who use spools just walk up to the stand and lift it, I have to spend time carefully lining up my stand, and lifting it, but I think my kickstand leans WAY far left, and I'm very very cautious with my F4i....It's my Baby

No, they're not. Swingarm spools usually have a smaller diameter mounting bolt area and thus can break things more easily in a crash. Spools are for lifting the rear end of the bike.

If someone wants to protect the back end they should get rear axle sliders that are designed for the purpose.

+1. Spools do not protect. Simply for ease/support when lifting the rear with a stand.
