suddenly will not idle and cuts out?
Hi guy's,
I ama loyal Rossi fan and own a 2002 Honda CBR600F4i Rossi Replica (Only 200 units brought into Aus). I have her as a collectors item and have only travelled 1256 klms since purchase new into July 2002. I have a trickle charge on the battery so i know i can start her when ever i want. So i have a tricky one here but someone maybe able to paint a picture of what is needed to correct the current dilema.
I take off her covers, start the bike and she will idle high and slowly drop revs until happy. I then get on and gofor my annual 20 klm bike ride to get my rego check complete. The bike ran fine as usuall, no issues! After the check, i get on and start no worries! I then ride 10 metres to the drive was and she switches off? I try to start to no avail? I then start, but keep the throttle (revs) up and knock her in gear and drive off very roughly until the revs are 4~5000RPM. I get to the first set of lights and have to stop and the bike cuts out? I can only run her from here-on in if i keep the throttle on? So any ideason how this can be so sudden to a new (but old) bike?
Notes to add: Fuel has now been drained and still the same issue, spark plugs obviously fine!
Cheers guy's looking forward to some commentry here!
Regards,

Sounds like a battery problem.
Could be the regulator rectifier or the stator not charging the battery enough.
Check the battery condition and water levels first.
Then fire it up and run at 3000+RPM and check the current across the battery.
Should be +-13.8V
It could also be deposits in the fuel which have dried to a powder inside the carbs, and when you run it they have found their way into your throttle bodies.
To be honest, you'd probably be better off either riding it a lot more, or winterising it and not riding at all. Bikes don't like to be handled the way you're doing it. Does more harm than good.
Just my 2c

Thanks Guy's - I will check out the battery voltage tonight at the 3000RPM mark. Just a question in the interim - how can this happen suddenly? Remember, she started and rode perfectly for 20 minutes (20 klms) and thenafter a 20 minute check she was stuffed?
Cheers for now!

Hi MartiniRossy,
Fuel injected yes, Fuel pump running yes (but i am going to look at filter if any over the weekend), if the revs drop below 1~1100RPM she cuts out? Above that she runs fine, but definately gets better the higher the revs go. I wouldn't say she runs as smooth through prior tothis sudden idle loss. I can't even adjust the idle adjustment **** to bring the rev's up - I can turn either way without affecting revs? Anyway will run over the battery volts, fuel filter, air intake (spray) tommorrow and will advise what i come up with. It just gets me that it was a sudden occurrence!
Cheers,

If your battery fails, the whole thing can go pear shaped very quickly.
I'm more inclined to think you've picked up a blockage of some sort in your injectors.
It's so hard to tell from here - wish I could be more specific................
It could even be a CDI unit failing, a dodgy coil or just funny spark plugs.
Even a fuel blockage in the tank filter could do it.........
Can't be more help, I'm afraid.
Maybe if there were more symptoms, it would help to narrow down the search..........
