stupid hondas
I'm having problems starting my 03 954. It ran fine started w/ no problems, then i had to refuel. I used the same gas i always do 93 octane from citgo. but i topped it off a little too much and it ran over the edge and when i shut the cap it leaked a little more. After i refueled the bike wouldnt start. Just turning over and puffing out white smoke. Ive checked to make sure it wasnt coolant, at first i thought it might be vapor locked but ive pretty much ruled that out. So i have no idea. any help would be awsome. thanks
So did ya have to have it towed or did it eventually start once it cooled down? Don't think overfilling the tank means much with respect to not starting. Sounds more like it flooded. If ya want help you gotta give us more information.
since i have had the bike it has not been knocked over or crashed, the previous owner did dump it, but it was caught before anything but the crankcase was scratched. ( about 2000 miles ago). I acutally pushed it home, only 1 block away. this happend yesterday. , Before i go digging in the bike where exactly is the saftey switch for the fuel pump. if it matters the fuel pump still makes the wining sound. How would i flood the bike.
You can't flood it -- I had a brain fart and forgot it's fuel injected. If the fuel pump is running then there's no issue with the tip-over switch needing to be reset. Sorry, been a long day ... So have you tried to restart it since it's cooled down? If so what did it do? Does your bike have a power commander on it? Has it done it before and if so was it running hot at the time?
Sometimes the IAT (intake air temp sensor) can get too hot once you shut down due to bad placement -- when you try to restart it thinks the air temp is too warm and shoots way too much gas. I don't know if this is an issue with the 954. Generally you'd notice a problem when the bike heats up and you have no airflow (traffic, dyno, or after shutting down and then restarting).

the bike is completely stock, and has never done this before that i know of. I had just got done riding from my house in central illinois to st. louis and back, so about 300 miles. I didnt ride the crap out of it, only going about 75 the entire way. But when i try to start it after a few minutes of cranking there is a weird smell , and its definately coming from the exhaust. Its not exactly a sweet smell but more like a burnt oil smell. I checked the oil and of course it did have a hint of fuel to it.
Sounds like you pumped Diesel instead of gasoline
Ok so no, diesel. cause ive almost done that too.
Manual says for F4i,
Flooded Engine.
1. leave engine stop switch set to run (no duh)
2. open throttle fully
3 . press start button for 5 seconds.
4. follow the normal starting procedure, (start with throttle completely closed, engine will not start if the throttle is fully open , because the electronic control cuts off fuel supply , ( that might be your problem.
5 if engine starts , then open throttle slightly if idling is unstable . if engine does not start wait 10 seconds the follow steps 1-4. PS. hondas arent stupid.
