Today I bought a set of strobe lights. The lights are on the end of a bolt so I decided to use them as license plate lights.

There is a switch with two positive wires coming off of iti...one wire goes to a transformer (forgive me if thats the wrong name, but its a little black box), and the other wire goes to a power source.

The ground for the system comes out of a black wire, which is also connected to the transformer.

The strobes have three wires each coming off of them, and they connect to the transformer too. I beleive the colors are red, black, and white.

I want the lights to be on constantly, and when I flip the switch, I want them to have the strobe effect. The problem is that the lights are off, and when I flip the switch they get the strobe effect.

Is there anyway I could make them run all the time, and then blink when I hit the switch?

I currently have the ground for the system set up to the normal license plate light ground, as well as the power connected to the normal license plate light power wire.

If these are true strobe lights one of the two hot wires is a trigger wire that causes the gas inside to ionize and carry the current that then produces the light. The black box is a high voltage capacitor that supplies the power for the light. There is probably additional circuits inside that control the rate of charge and frequency of the flashing. If you could change some of the internal component values, you could make them flash so fast that they appear to stay on. However you would need a schematic of the "black box" to know what to change. Do be careful. Even the little capacitors can carry enough charge to do you harm. If there is any info on the box you might try an internet search for the circuit. Otherwise a local electronics person might recognize the circuit and calculate the component values you will need.

That sounds a little too complicated and time consuming for me. Im just going to put on a license plate lights instead. Thanks for the help though.
