Default starter issue

putting a 600rr back together after a crank swap, now the crank was bent, and i think a guy my friend brought his bike to originally was hitting the starter like a retard because he actually killed the battery (only 1500mi on the battery) so now theres a new battery and a straight crank, but i hit the starter button and get buzzing from the starter solenoid. jumped the terminals to rule that out and just sparks and nothing. im starting to think the guy burnt up the starter. any input??

Yea, it sounds right. Luckily, you've got the bike pretty far apart, so pulling the starter so you can test it shouldn't be too tough.

scratch that, silly me to expect a brand new battery to be good. wont hold anything past 10.xx volts. i got it to turn over a time or 2 which is good news.
