Default Stainless Steel Brake Lines - Plastic Coating

I bought a bike that came with stainless steel brake lines. The lines are wrapped in red "spiral" plastic coating, presumably to protect the lines from chaffing. I know it doesn't protect the brake lines from water, dirt, ect because they are not sealed.

I really don't care for the appearance of the red spiral stuff so is it ok for me to remove it? It would literally take like 5 minutes to remove since all I have to do is unwind the spiral stuff and pull it off. Is there any reason for me to leave it on?[/align]

THE COATING IS THERE TO PROTECT THE BRAKE LINES FROM DAMAGE . REMOVE IT IF YOU WISH BUT DONT KNOCK THE PIPES THEY DAMAGE EASILY.
