Default Spray painting - Matt black

Sorry if this is a repost guys. I did use the search function but couldn't find my answer.

I've sanded down and primered my helmet, I'm getting ready to spray it Matt black or flat black as some people call it.
I can't find any information on whether or not it should have a few coats of lacquer to protect it?? I'd have thought it must have but surely normal lacquer will leave me with a shiny surface and that's not what I'm after.????

Any info will be appreciated
Thanks in advance
Rich

It depends on the type of paint.. I believe there are some single-stage type paints that don't require a top coat. I've seen some matte finish clear coats before as well so that would probably work too if they are available to you out there. A regular glossy clear coat would indeed leave a shiny finish that you don't want.

Depends on ur paint.. I visited 3 car paint shops last week... They gave me a color that stays flat black on drying. So that I could deside later witch lacquer to go for. A flat or shiney... Some paints might not need... but to be sure and protect, they do make a flat lacquer. In summer I spray painted few small parts with just a spray can flat black and didnt have any problems on cleaning it.. didnt come off aswell.. worked fine...
