Default speed sensor problem?

i have a 2001 cbr 600 f4i. My speedometer seems to work some times and others it says at 0. Also the F1 light comes on at times, and other times it doesnt. Could this be a speed sensor problem?

Any thoughts?

thanks in advance

yes,are you losing speedometer and f1 light at the same time?-i am looking a the wiring diagram for
my 54(i dont think that they would be different)-shows 3 wire connector-one is power-to instrument and
sensor, one is for ground, and one goes to both ecm and instrument cluster-this one is why i ask
if both problems are happening at the same time?
double check me with the wire diagram for your bike-should be similar

go through the wiring-check connectors as well as connections, check for a loose ground(doubtful!)
beyond that-try to find out the error code!!-if it is speed sensor-to ecm,it is probably the speed sensor
-you almost need a oscillescope to check the sensor directly-being that it is intermittent,it would be
a b*tch to do-but you would be able to see the spike in the volt pattern-when/if it is acting up
but once more-check the wiring diagram!-if you need further help-i will be on/off the forum
today-i will do my best

my speedo does not work either
I have a Honda cbr 900 RR1998 and my speedometer and odometer only work like 2 min every half hour. and then the speedometer drops to 0 then works again after half an hour.
I measured the voltage coming in the speedometer the pink and black connector the one specified in the book , it measures 5 V when the bike is off or on the on position.
now when the bike is turned on and the speedometer is working , it measures around 2.5 V variable , but as soon as the speedometer stops working, the voltage goes up to 4.9 V stable until the speedo works again, the voltage goes back to a variable 2.5 V .

dunno if that means a speed sensor problem in my case , didnt figure out 100%
