somethings wrong!!
so here is the deal. i got a 99 cbr f4 two months ago. the seller said he had changed the oil before he sold it to me. i was out riding one day and went to the store to pick up some things, came back out to my bike, and it had trouble starting. (it usually starts up in 1 turn, but this took 3) then when it did start i heard a loud clicking noise. It was pretty consistant along with the engine. I rode it around the parking lot, and then saw the temp shoot way up above normal. it was about then, that i noticed the oil light was on. i turned it off and walked it home from there.
i have taken off the fairings and tried to get some idea of where the problem is. the first thing i did was get some oil and fill it up. the loud clicking noise has dissapeared but the bike still has the oil light on and heats up really fast. My dad has some knowledge about bikes, so he was helping me out and we thought it was the thermostat. but when we checked the radiator the coolant seemed to be moving fine, thus, the thermostat must be working. does anyone have any idea whats going on?

no, i didn't check the oil when i got it. I remember looking into the porthole for the oil and seeing it filled halfway about a month ago though. i am a little new to the sport bike world and just figured out i need to keep a close eye on the oil. i've looked around on the forums and it looks like everyone replaces the oil around 2000 miles. is that a good measure? and when the bike started to malfunction, there was no oil in the porthole.
Demonchild, would not having the correct oil pressure also cause the bike to heat up really quickly? it idles nicely for about 5 minutes then the temp shoots up.

sadly this isn't a joke. i apologize if i explained it in such a way to make you think that, but i am new at this. just trying to get answers.
i will take it to a mechanic, and tell you what they say.

yes, if you are out of oil and there was no pressure for more than about 20 seconds after starting it, you scortched the engine. these are not briggs and straton engines that can run dry almost indefinetly. if it is making noise, there is no telling what you broke, but you definently broke something. your best bet would be to find another engine on ebay and install it. It isnt that hard. just make sure that the engine is not hot(stolen). Ask the seller for the engine number and have the local PD run the number before bidding on it.
if i had scorched the engine would it still run? because i changed the oil and it still starts up and runs, but still heats up after about five minutes of running. I am noticing that the fan is not turning on either.
If i had the wrong oil pressure, would that cause the engine to heat up in that manner? Or what if i had filled up the oil too much or too little?

Man, where in Orange County are you? Go down to one of the bike nights and someone will tell you if something is wrong. If you did physical damage to the engine (ie it making bad noise) then an oil change would not have fixed that. Also, when you say heating up, what are you talking about. How hot is the engine getting. These engines are made to run somewhat hot in the first place.
Could a failed oil pump make a clicking noise? Maybe a clogged pump like something else let go and got picked up into the pump? I am clueless how the motor isdesigned, but maybe it ain't spun bearings and whatnot. I have an old vette that had an oil pump clogged with little plastic pieces from a timing chain, it really hurt oil pressure, as far as noise, it is a big block and loud as hell.
