to slow a CBR?
okay my dream bike has been a cbr 600rr since i was like 10. im 17 and i have been saving my money, been driving friends r6, i own a 09 ninja 250r (slow i know). i love the power of the cbr and i love the feel and looks of it. i was about to buy one and parents step in... "no way in hell are u getting a bike that fast. the only way u can is if u make it where it wont run above 100 mph." how do i make it where it wont run above 100mph but will still accellerate like normal? i know i could throttle stop it but i would have to back it down alot. any way to get like a shut down speedo or anything to make it stop at 100 mph? or even a little trick to build one to get it to?
This is more a question of education for your parents especially given the fact you are
already on a bike riding .......... it 's not about the bikes capabilities it's about the
maturity skill and experience of the rider. You need to be able to demonstrate to them
all of the above.
Best way to limit your bike ....... simple self control !

You could just stick an old circuit board under the seat and tell them that it limits the top speed.
I'm 17 and have owned a ninja 250 and now a F4i and for me it was the same thing with my parents not wanting me to get a bigger bike but I just show a lot of responsibility like not driving fast. Maybe you should show your parents you have self control like Sprock said.

Sprock nailed this one.
you must have demostrated some behavior that has them worried. However, I can't imagine why 100mph is ok with them.
My best guess is they know there is no way you can limit the bike at 100mph so they gave you a rediculous goal as a requirement. Go to them and make up a story. Tell them you found a kit you can buy that will limit it to a set a speed and I bet they will come up with a new requirement really fast.
Nothing wrong with a 250 as a first bike. Show your parents you are mature enough to handle a more powerful bike and they may change their mind. But my guess is they won't change their mind. I would just be happy they let you ride the 250. Most parents wouldn't even allow that for most 17 year olds.
Having said that, in the UK they have restricted bikes, so restricting one should be able to be done. But it probably is not cheap. More than likely, your looking at programming, new exhaust, intake, maybe injectors. Even then, you won't limit the top speed, just the amount of power the bike produces.

Or, wait a year, buy gear in the meantime, and buy what you want.
No point handicapping yourself with payments on a bike you don't want when you could spend the next year taking the MSF, buying gear, and collecting a pile of mods to slap on the bike on your 18th birthday.

i havent really done anything, hard to speed on a bike that uses 6 gears to cruise a 45 mph zone lol. its not that ive done anything wrong its that my mom HATES bikes and my dad co signed my 250 buy. but i want to upgrade so i can run the highway without my bike being red lined. my bike runs 10k rpms at 70mph in 6th gear... i was just wondering if there was any way to slow down a cbr's top speed so i could get one.
