Default Shifting

I have a 1989 cbr 600 f that has an intermitant problem with not wanting to go to neutral and hard shifting to 1st and second during this time. It did it once last year and I just started riding it last week and it has already done this about 5 times. In order to get it to go to neutral I have to grab the shifter and manually try to find neutral which usually takes quite a bit of shifting in and out of 1st and 2nd??[:@] Anyone had this happen before?? Thanks for any help

Your bike uses a "wet" clutch... the oil lubricates all parts of the engine and transmission. If it get's all gunked up, shifting is effected (as is less noticible engine parts). That would be number one on my list of things to try first! (new motorcycle oil and filter!)

another issue coud be your idle adjustment sometimes when your idle is too high or too low it can be very difficult tofind nuetral and get it to shift with out clunking real hard i belive for that bike the idle should be like 25 00 to 2700 rpms give it a shot real quick if your idle is off

I changed oil and it shifts better but it still does not like to go to neutral when I am at a stand still. If I rock it back and forth and keep shifting from 1st to second it will go in after a couple times of that. Another question afterI changed oil I started hearing noise come from the head area of the engine. It increases as RPMs increase.

I also adjusted the idle. The manual states it should be 1200 + - 100 RPM
