Replacing chain. Calipers?!
Hi guys, I'm getting ready to do my first chain [and sproket] change [CBR600F4, 1999], and I've only seen others do it via youtube, so I've got a few questions.
As you can see from the pictures, I bought a DID525 X ring. I was told I would need calipers, so I bought a set today, will these work (i.e., precise enough). What exactly am I going to do with them? I kind of see what people do in youtube but I've no idea what the point is exactly (it's never explained). Some crimpling to a set size?
Thanks, BBP

Yes, you need calipers to measure the flare of the master-link pins once you've installed your new chain & secured w/ master-link. The factory service manual gives you the acceptable flare measurement range for the pins. The manual also takes you step by step thru the process of changing your chain.

When I changed my chain, I simply measured the size of the rivet flare on the factory rivet. Then checked to see what is was before flaring the rivet, and then after. I hope this clears up we're they're referring to.
