Default Removing a Rear Wheel

So I have an 01 600 f4i. I am trying to pull the rear wheel to take to get a new tire. I was using the tools from the stock tool kit. I could not get the axel nut undone. Am I missing a step or tool?

Are you holding the axel on the other side with a wrench while you try and losen the nut? The axel will rotate if on a stand making it impossible to losen. You can also losen it while the wheel is on the ground.

I didn't realize the F4's had to have the other side held. doesn't the axle spacer on that side hold the axle from turning?

Can you just not get the nut loose? If so, Im guessing you just can't get enough force with the small tool provided. You need to use a larger wrench or rachet. Im not sure what the exact spec is on the F4's, but normally, they require at least 80ft-lbs of force. thats awful hard to generate that kind of force from the little tool in the kit.

If you have a socket on there, try using a closed end wrench and put it on the end of the socket handle, MIGHT give you a little bit of extra "umph". I recently changed my rim and tire on my F4 and thankfully I had a breaker bar available. On the F4, I did have to have a wrench on the other side of the axle to keep the other nut from rotating as i was loosening up the main one. Good Luck!

Thanks, a buddy of mine lent me a bigger wrench so I was able to put more force behind it. Wheel is off. New tire is on. Unfortunately, while tightening the axle back up, my baby fell off the rear stand. Minimal damage. The clutch lever is bent, but I think it threw off the cable adjustment. With my lever fully pulled, dropping down into first stalls out the bike. Thoughts?

Stalls out your bike? Honestly, the only time I have had my bike stall after putting it into gear, was when my kickstand was down. So with that said, and your left side being the downed side, might want to check the kickstand. Check it to make sure its not being "read" as down still. Not sure how you would go about doing that, considering I'm still new to the bike world. Lol, best of luck to ya! Keep us updated!

You know what.....I brain farted, my stand was down. *facepalm* I was afraid it would come down off the rear stand again so I had the kick stand down. Haha. Thanks, it was such a frustrating process to get the rear tire on again. I will check my baby again tomorrow at some point.

Lol, I'm sure we all have forgotten to put our kickstand up. Just glad I was able to remind you about that little convenience. Enjoy your bike!
