Default rectifier regulator 95 CBR900

How hot does the rectifier regulator get on a CBR900 when the battery is fully charged?
Does anybody know how to test a regulator rectifier?

I am afraid my bike will quit on me. For 1 year my bike would cut out a little bit at about 9000RPM only in second gear. I checked the fuel pump pressure, looked at the spark plugs, took the carbs apart checked the main jet. This was very hard to trouble shoot since it only cuts out under full throttle in second gear. I read online that strange problems are sometimes related to the regulator. When I replaced the regulator the bike ran great for about 10 miles (I could do 2 gear 65MPH wheelies for the first time in a year). After 10 miles it jerked a few times and died started died again. I am guessing it died because the regulator was to hot. When I got it home I discovered that one of the 3 wires from the alternator at 5000RPM only put out 15VAC the other 2 were at about 30. So I replaced the wiring between the rectifier and alternator. I also put CPU grease between the regulator and bike frame to keep the rectifier cool. The bike now runs great but I am worried that I may have gotten the regulator to hot.

In a nutshell, the regulator dumps excess current from the alternator as heat, and the rectifier converts ac to dc. I believe your problem is one of the circuits that cuts off the ignition. I would check the emergency off switch, neutral switch, tipover switch, kickstand switch and any other switch in the ignition circuit. Then I would check the ignition wires, coils, etc. All you need is a $20 digital voltage meter from Sears and Honda manual or Haynes manual for your bike.

Your right. I didn't know that the regulator dumps excess current to Heat.
That kind of explans why the bike had problems after running for 20 min. The battery charged then the regualator got to hot.
I found a site that explans it.
http://www.inwa.net/~m3047/rect-reg/rect-reg.html

So I had 2 problems one there was a bad connection between the alternator and regulator. Two I had to put heat conductive grease between the regulator and frame to disapate the heat.

Thanks for the help,
electrical problems are a pain,
