Default rear suspension spring preload adjustment?? HELP

Im basically messing around the rear suspension spring preload that has 7 adjustments. My manual said that 3-7 are for hardspring, 2 is standard, and 1 is softspring. My question is mostly to verify Im doing this right. Counterclockwise to turn the number higher I presume? Another thing I cant really tell is what to look for as to what number Im really on. I havent messed with it yet and wanted to see how it works before I go messing around with it. Id like to basically raise the tailend a tad bit for my height. Any help would be grateful! My bike is a 99 CBR600.

Default RE: rear suspension spring preload adjustment?? HELP

adjusting the spring preload will not raise the tail end of your bike. for that you will have to shim the clevis of the shock. Increasing shock preload will prevent the tail from sagging as much when loaded (with the weight of you and your gear +/- a passenger). ideally, you want 25-35mm of static sag- the difference in the measurement of a point on your tail directly vertical to the rear axle when loaded compared to unloaded. not sure about the the 99 CBR600 shock, but i have an 02 600F4i and i weigh 230lbs- setting 7 on the shock gives me about 29-30mm of sag...
