rear axle.

rear axle.
quick and easy, possibly stupid question. I stripped the nut on the rear axle while changing a tire. The nut is completely smooth inside haha, its finished. But the axle its self has good threads it looks like. My local dealer wants to order me a nut for 15 bucks and I almost think I could buy it from a damn hard ware store. I said it has to some what relate to most axle nuts on all bikes, I cant imagine that a 01 F4i has a one of a kind specific nut... Anyway he wouldn't help me out because he wanted to charge me 15 bucks for the " Correct " nut.. effin idiot.
Is there a more simple solution for this fix rather than bending over for the dealers?

Your best bet is to just buy a used axle and nut on ebay.
I wouldn't use that axle if it has seen enough torque to strip the nut. Not only will the threads be weakened, (even though they may look good), but the axle has probably had some stretch put into it. In other words, it has been weakened. Not something you want to take a chance with. Especially since you can buy a used axle and nut for 20 bucks or under.
I doubt its a common thread. For sure its metric, and probably cut specific for the axle. Not 100 percent sure, but it also probably has a prevailing torque to the nut as well. It would very hard to locate one at a local hardware store. Even if you did, it would probably still cost 5-10 bucks for a nut that size and type.

I know it's an 18mm..... not sure of the pitch, though.
Like Mr. Squid said, I don't think it's gonna be real easy to just find one at a hardware store that's gonna be cheap, that big, and have the correct pitch.
Plus, I'm pretty sure the axle nuts are self locking, so that's something else to consider.
