i got a 2003 954rr in pcs. and put back together when trying to start you can hear the starter gear turning and there is a popping noise from the fuse box/starter relay area need to get running any help would be great don't want to take to shop just put new starter gear on and new battery

 

is it a single pop? Or is is a series of clicks that repeat very rapidly?

If its the latter, then the either battery is bad, or there is a short somewhere not allowing enough power to the starter relay.

Take a mulit-meter and measure the voltage at the relay. Crank it over, and see if it stays the same. It should be the same as at the battery, around 12.5-13 volts or so, if its not, then you probably have a grounding issue.
