Problematic F4i
Seems like the F4i is either a precarious bike, or given the age of some of them a lot of them are breaking down, as I've seen in the 01-06 forum. I had posted a thread in there the other day but, did not receive much assistance.
Long story short, my fuel pump isn't engaging when I switch off the kill switch and, I am getting a FI flash code of one solid, two quick, thus meaning #1 fuel injector is buggered. However, I'm wondering if it's really just the injector.
Would the fuel pump being bad send the same signal? As from the list I have in regards to FI flash codes, such a thing is not listed. Does it make any sense that the injector being foul would cause the fuel pump to no longer engage? I am just wondering what other possibilities there may be to look out for in case it is not as straight forward as the code is telling me it is..as we all know, nothing is cut and dry.
I was having a lack of power issue once hitting the freeway at regular speeds, sort of like the bike was running on fumes - odd throttle response, and after shutting the bike down, it would not prime right away until I waited a minute or two, then it would be okay again. I decide to see about resetting the ECM by unplugging it and the battery, and after that the pump would no longer engage.
The PO said he had an issue before with the infamous pink wire, which does look worn but, I had that looked at last month and was told it was okay..though it doesn't look ideal and, have tried wiggly the wire around to no avail. Would said wire being faulty cause the #1 injector code or the symptom mentioned afore while riding? Just trying to narrow things down to safe on time and potential expenses, this is currently my main form of transportation and I'd like to sort things out as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
