Thumbs down Price? Exhaust

Maybe this is the wrong forum to post a rhetorical question about exhaust parts and their outlandish and ridiculous pricing, but Sheesh!..

Does anyone actually buy these ~$500 slip-on mufflers? What a freaking joke! I was looking around on Ebay this morning. A lot of the Big Name exhaust makers are selling their crap for more money than people are asking for complete motors! It's just a dang can, stuffed with some packing and buffed a bit....where do they come up with a ~$500 value for that?

We moto-heads must be a bunch of real suckers if we pay (and these guys stay in business, so we must do it) well over 10 times more than something should cost to make...even if you made them one at a time by hand...

Ok, go back to sleep...sorry for asking...We should just stop buying at such stupid prices, or all go to Danmoto for stuff....and Danmoto is overpriced too....at 1/4 the cost of the other crooks' mufflers....

Lol, that's one thing that scares me about getting a Ducati...they cost over $2,000 for an exhaust system, most are closer to 3K...which is not in my range to spend on an exhaust haha

Its not like they are just car mufflers in a different shape. Most of them are 100% titanium which is a very strong, light and expensive metal. Some are also titanium with carbon fiber covers.....also expensive.

as maverick said, its part due to the materiel it cost. and part for the labor involved in it. when you get a car muffler / exhaust system installed, sure it cost $500 to the whole thing, but you wont see the welds right up close and its mostly just sheet metal rolled to form a tupe.
on bikes, even the cheapest factory metal is stainless with very clean welds. the higher end stuff is titanium which is almost impossible to weld freehand and carbon of some sort which is also very difficult to wok with.
mix that with the man hours that goes into making it, and you got your answer

if you dont think its so, jack up the rear end of your car and look at the factory work, i bet you will find all sorts of ****ty work plus rust. now look at your factory job on your bike.

If it's too expensive, don't buy it. If you think it's that simple, make your own.

You could get aluminum, stainless, carbon fiber, titanium, unobtainium in the 90's to for half what it costs now. I rolled a Gsxr-1100 watercooled back then. Full Yoshi exhaust in stainless and carbon fiber-$700...and I thought that was expensive then. Got my 96 Yzf-750sp in 98- Full Micron titanium header and carbon fiber can-$825. $500 for just the slip-on now is too much. I run a Dan moto on my Cbr and I think it's well made for what it is but I would rather have a full stainless system instead but...$$$$.

I think the Akrapovic slip ons are actually quite a bit more than $500, haha. Mine was on the bike when I bought it.
