Default Powder coating rims

Ok just got my rim's...soon to be done this next week. Here is the problem.

1.I couldn't get the bearings out..the seals are out yet the bearings were left into place.

2. When powder coating the guy will be taking high heat temp tape and covering up the whole area were the bearing is. Will this help out? I heard this will help reflect a good amount of heat from the bearings.

3. If they go bad(hope not). I will be charged over 220 for getting new bearings put in...which I find a little high...actually a lot of high haha.

So you think the bearings are going to be ok?

it'll cook the grease out at a minimum.. what temp so they bake at, 350? i would think the rubber seals on the bearings would be ok but who knows, if you really can't get em out you should ask your coater and remove the little seals on the bearings themselves, you cant remove the inner one but even if it melted the worse that could happen is grese goes between the bearings in the hub. Good luck and dont take my advice for gospel, i personally would heat the wheel and pound the bearings out using a press if available, even a pilot bearing removal tool might work. Be sure to buy new bearings if you pound on the inner race

Better to remove them before the powdercoating...It would frost my shorts to damage the new finish if they have to come out anyways.

+1 to what thrasher said. Plus, it'll give you an excuse to replace w/ new bearings. And *yes*, $220 is too high to have these replaced. Shop around.

Good luck.

the bearings will be unsafe and useless...

new bearings are CHEAP

apporx 20-30 each side

so 220 installed is HIGH

patience and you can get them out
they are 'pressed' in .. since you dont care about the old ones...a long screw driver... through the rim... tap the inner enge of the bearings left and right left and right .. it WILL pop out .. once it is out the inner sleeve will fall out then flip it over and do the same to the other side..

when installing the new ones get a 1/2 drive socket that is a tad smaller then the rim bearing housing opening and TAP it lightly with a rubber malled or 5lb hand held sledge but tapp it do not beat it

not so hard once you do it once ..

where are you located?
