Default popping glass out of mirrors

I got some replacement mirrors for my 99 900rr. Problem is, they are for F4600s, (ebay said they'd fit 98-99 900rrs. Yeah the holes match, but the arms are like 4 feet long! well 3-4 inches longer) Looks like I'm ready to pull a trailer now!

Anyhooo, I still have my original mirrors, but the glass is broke out. I want to try and put the new glass (pop 'em out) and put them into my stock arms.
Anyone have any tips or have tried popping glass out before? When I try, I just know that glass is going to break.

Try using heat to warm up the glue?
