I am the only person to do any of the mechanical work on my bike. It saves money and when things go wrong i know what to do.
Take a look at the fuel filter and fuel pump.

Sounds like you got a fuel line pinched under the tank, easily done when installing tank back on.

My guess is the vent tube from your gas tank is pinched. It happens once in awhile when the tank is set back on the bike and the person doing it doesnt watch for it. Its possilbe its plugged as well.

Next time it happens, quickly pop open your gas filler and listen. If you hear a woosh... then thats the issue.

Also, Im not sure what bike you have. they didnt make an F4i in 99. Im assuming your bike is an F4. the F4 was carburated, the F4i was the fuel injected version of that bike.

to check your fuel pump you can "hardwire" it directly to the battery. It should continuously run.
If those checkout and you dont have any pinches it might be the fuel pump relay.
