Default Painted windscreen?

So the guy I purchased my bike from had painted (not tinted, night shaded, etc) but painted the windscreen. Has anybody had luck taking paint off of one before? I'm a tad timid about using paint thinner and the likes on plastics. What would you guys recommend?

Well if you dont like it to begin with it cant make it any worse. Id just obviously take the windscreen off then just try using some mineral spirits first then go to paint thinner. If it ruins the windscreen somehow then it ruins the windscreen. It sounds like you want a new one anyway so i dont see the harm in it. Give it a try.

Its really going to be hard work to get the paint off with any type of chemical without damaging the windscreen. Even if you get the paint off, your going to be left with a windscreen you can't see through because the chemicals will cloud the screen.

My suggestion, as long as your good with a buffer, is to wet sand the paint off. Start with 1000 grit. Once its off, move up to 1500 grit and then onto 2000 grit to remove any fine scratches that may be there. Then, take a buffer with a wool pad and use an aggressive cut compound. It will clean the haze off and give you a nice clear windscreen. Its about the only way I can think of that won't ruin the plastic underneath.

Although, I would check ebay. Stock windscreens go fairly cheap, and it may be a better option just to buy a used one.

You're probably better off buying a new one.

Thats what I figured. I'll try to wet sand this thing down and see how it goes and after the impending disaster order one from ebay. Thanks guys.
