Default Oil Pump help needed!

Hi Fellas, how you doing?

Stumbled across this forum when I was trying to find some info about CBR oil pumps. Quick introduction - I'm part of a motorsport team in Perth, Australia (University / college team), involved inbuilding aformula-SAE race car - space frame chassis with a motorcycle engine. The engine in question is a CBR 600 F4i. At the minute I'm attempting to design and build a dry sumplube systemfor this engine, because we were gettingoil pressure dropping under heavy cornering asour engine, unlike the bike install, doesntlean into corners!

Anywayyy, my dry sump system requires a scavenge pump that takes oilfrom the sump into an external reservior - and from here to the stock engine oil pump. The scavenge pump must be of a higher flow rate than the stock engine pump - ive calc'ed this to about 40 l/min at 6000RPM. As its positive displacements its linear against engine speed also. Im running the scavenge pump where the water pump is normally (this has been replaced by an electric water pump) - so I need a pump with a higher flow rate than the stock engine pump, therefore a possible solution I was examing was taking a different oil pump (perhaps from a CBR 1000) and using it. IF I can just get the internal gearing from a larger pump I'm happy to machine a custom housing and drive for the pump - these gerotor pumps are beyond the scope of my manufacturing capabilities and too expensive to get machined by a toolshop etc. This is turning into an essay sorry, but to summarise:

1) Does anyone have any knowledge of the oil flow rates of theCBR's (or other bikes) that arelarger than the 600F4i? Or can point me in the right direction (i.e.source ofworkshop manuals, someone who would know) Or even a educated opinion that they would be greater?

2) Any experience with anything like this being done in the past - search function on this website im struggling get working.

3) Any other suggestions from you tech-heads? Im always open to people opinions and thoughts, no matter how wild!

Thanks guys,

David

If your looking to modify a f4 engine into a 4 wheeled vehicle you should check out mini-sprint racing. They would have all the info you need.
