Default oil

I was just wondering if overfilling your oil will hurt the bike. I know this may sound stupid to some of you for me asking but I just bought my first bike and when we changed the oil we put about 3 3/4 quarts of oil in it. My friend told me it would not hurt it but I worry about everything like that and it is not what is "recommended" so to speak so I want to make sure it will really not hurt it.

Will be fine, about a half quart or so overfull wont hurt anything. I do a lot of wheelieing so i usually run a 1/2 quart over myself, 20 some thousand miles and never an issue.

As long as you don't go too much over you should be fine. Too much oil and the bike will push it out the breather vent and spit it everywhere. If you put enough in as to where the piston skirts start slapping the oil, then you can damage the pistons, but I don't know how much oil you would have to put in to do that, as alas, I have never had the desire to try it.
