Default Not sure whats going on bike shutting down after running at 70mph for 20mins

Hey
So iv been having trouble with my bike I use it for work everyday which is about 14miles and runs ok roads are twisty so only really giving it some on a few straights,
The other day a went to see my father which is 40 miles on motorway I set off and was crusing round about 70mph all was ok for 15mins then I felt a misfire just a little judder then after I came off the motorway and accerlated it misfired loads in 2,3and 4 not so much in 5th anyway I arrived with it jumping down the road,
I set off back wasn't to bad a first then back on motorway 10mins later it was back i was in top gear and it must of looked like the engine was powered by a kangaroo the more gas I gave it stopped for s split second then started again,
The sort of shut of and back on then of then back on AGAIN IT FELT LIKE I WAS filpping the kill switch on and off.
As I pulled of the bike completely shut off I could not start it again,
I went and picked my trailer to pick it up so was roughly half hour just out of curiosity I thought I'd try start it up it fired up no problem and was idling fine.
Brought it home and chucked it in the garage. Liv been looking today at the charging system mainly the rectifier/regulator I checked the voltage while engine on seem ok the r/r was red hot and the plastic connector was melted,
Here's a pic
[IMG][/IMG]

The spark plug air filter oil and coolant was changed very recently ago.

Could the r/r be faulty and the connected be causing this

As I only ride14 mile to work I wonder if its not having time to get hot enough and fail on the. Longer journey it might of gotten to hot decided to fail then while I was off picking the rescue service up it had chance to cool and be ok again .
ANYBODY' HAVE ANY IDEAS.

Also the plastic connector may look trashed which it s but it still seems to be connecting the points I could be very wrong though

Thank you

Yup. Bad R/R. There is lots of options you can go for to replace it. Electrosport makes good units I hear.

I just replaced mine a couple weeks back with an ebay unit. A bit of soldering etc... needed to fit it but it works great.

And that connector is toast. Don't try to use it again.

Sure it can. You can attach it to the subframe, or somewhere else where air actually flows through the sink.

Nice one thanks for that did you solder the wires on to the r/r or did you get another connector

My connector wasn't cooked, so I could reuse it. You can buy universal connectors at any auto parts store and just make your own, or you can 'hardwire' the RR into the bike.
