Need some help!
I did a search and found some info but not exactly what I was looking for. I have a 2005 600RR with Vortex frame sliders and am trying to take the pucks off but can't find a damn socket to fit in the puck hole. I didn't put them on I had the dealership do it, so IDK what size the hex head is<looks like a 3/4", but IDK...I have a 3/4" Craftsman deep socket but its not fitting...does anyone else have these sliders or know what size the hex head is and what socket brand(s) are definately going to work? I'd greatly appriciate it if someone could help me out, thanks!
Well I can't fit the socket in the hole of the puck, like the sockets that I have that'll actually fit in there seem too small and the ones that I thought would work (18mm, 3/4") are too big. It's a 2005, and as far as I know, each bike (f4i's, 600RR's, etc) all have different size/kind of bolts (allen, hex...)...and all the sockets that I've tried have been deep well, so...IDK what else to do.
Yeah, I'm using the chrome ones...I've tried Craftsman deep well, Stanley...17-19mm, 3/4" and if they fit in the puck hole theyre too small and if its the size I do need the socket won't fit in the puck hole, IDK, it's weird...I'm about ready to take a f**king hacksaw amd cut the damn things off! lol
I live in Ohio and it's almost impossible to ride up to the parts store, lol...It's either sleeting, hailing, raining hard w/30+mph winds, just not riding weather...anyways, I was told today that the hex head inside the puck that I'm trying to get to is 19mm, well, I tried my 19mm again, wouldn't fit, went to Lowes and bought a Kobalt 19mm, a lil better, but still didn't fit...then I did some more research and talked to a couple more people and they said to try "impact sockets" because most of them are very thin walled, etc...so IDK, I guess that I'll go to Lowes or somewhere today and buy some "impact sockets", try them out, and if they don't work, then I'm just going to take off the fairings, try to unscrew/remove the bases then the pucks that way so I can put my new ones on, and if I still can't get the pucks off, then I'll just buy a different brand of frame sliders...to you who responded, I appriciate all of your help/suggestions, I just can't believe out of all these members on here, that not one person knows the exact socket size, etc., so I can remove these pucks.
look in the center of the slider. i'm assuming it's a 2 piece design right?
you use an allen wrench to remove just the slider part and not a hex socket. if it's the old school1 piece one then you use use the deep socket, which should fit.
