Need Help getting bike on road after accident
Hi guys, i have a 2006 F4i and in oct i had a pretty severe accident with a car which landed me in the hospital for a month with 8 surgeries, and recovering at home for 3 more. Needless to say the bike has just as much damage as i do. The stator cover got ripped off along with the frame slider and the footrest. The shifter is bent but still works and the fairing got cracked in half. I am looking at parts to get it back on the road on Ebay etc. but my main concern is i saw alot of oil leak out after the impact, which was all on the left side of the bike(the impact, not the oil). This may be a dumb question but would loosing the stator cover cause all the oil to leak out? or do i have another issue i need to look for? I am not very mechanically inclined but i have done some light work myself like oil changes, chain replacement, and tank swap so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael
Thanks,
Michael
If the stator and cover were ripped off, I'd bet there is damage to the engine case too. Inspect that area carefully for cracks and damage. A little crack can sometimes be welded, but bigger damage requires engine case/engine replacement. Might be cost effective to get another bike at that point.
@idodirt thanks buddy. It's a long process, but at least I'm walking now and am able to work. That's great news. I was afraid there might be more damage somewhere else.
@74 demon: thanks for your reply too. I will check the area for any visible cracks. I really hope that is not the case.
Thanks for your replies and please stay safe out there and wear your gear (boots too) it might have saved my foot if I had been wearing mine.

Ok, I managed to get the stator off only to find that the flywheel is damaged. So far it haven't seen any damage to the engine or case hopefully it will remain that way. I do have a question though, where does the cable and harness that attaches to the stator come from? I see the harness on the cover but I don't see the other end of it.
If the flywheel is damaged there's a good chance that the axle has also gotten a hit and is bent. Try to rotate the engine and see if it wobbles, even the slightest bend causes terrible vibrations when the engine is running.
