I tried searching but the only similar problem was for a F4 so i dont think it applied but anyway...

I just bought my first bike last night. I was riding it up and down my street (dont have a tag till tomm morning) and when I start cruuising around 40-45ish it will start sputtering. Kind jumpy feeling, then a little longer the red FI light comes on then it will stall. It starts right back up no prob and does the same thing after a few minutes. I haven't gotten a chance to go wot since I dont have my tag yet and am limited to my street so I dont know what it will do then. I am guessing FI is fuel injection (i dont have a manual) and I am thinking it is some kind of a fuel problem. But I am new to troubleshooting bikes so would love some help. I put in some injector system cleaner my local bike shop told me to try.

 

you have an F4...you don't have fuel injection...you are carburated.

first things first...check the easy stuff. make sure the battery connections are on tight.

 

No I have a 02 f4i, and connections were the first thing I checked but with my luck it is never that easy lol

 

you should find the FI code which it gives by blinking , then you will know what your problem is..

 

I ran through 2 tanks of gas today, and I ran it pretty hard. About half way through the second tank of gas I think the fuel system cleaner did it's job because it seems to be fine now. I guess it just sat too much and the gas gunked up... Thanks for the help guys!
